“Egan Strata 2”

“Egan Strata 2”

“Everything dreams. The play of form, of being, is the dreaming of substance. Rocks have their dreams, and the earth changes….”
― Ursula K. Le Guin

Image two of this series of photos of the wonderful rock formations at Egan Chute. I found it interesting, despite my education in geology, that the form and flow of the rock really resonated with me, not for the first time, but very strongly. Enough to make this series of images.

I find myself enjoying these images and really appreciating the detail, the small clumps of moss, fallen leaves, and the layering of the rock itself. All things I observed when making the image, but diluted by the vastness of the stone itself and the constant roar of rushing water at my side. The little triangular pool of water is the focus of the image, so temporary within the seeming permanence of the rock, yet it’s the water which wears the rock down, trapped with no escape, except through evaporation in the hot summer sun.

“Algonquin Dreams”

Algonquin Dreams

“All things want to float as light as air through the world witnessing all that is. I am a mote of dust floating freely in the firmament, a person who merely is, and I feel full of joy for all worldly treasures, the immaculate gift of life.”
― Kilroy J. Oldster

I’m quite enjoying my new found hobby and getting the feel of the brush. This is my 9th painting, since taking it up in February. I have the advantage of having many photographs to base the paintings on, though I take quite a bit of liberty in my interpretation of the final image. I also have the advantage of being able to photograph them and retaining all the true colors.
The basis of this image was a canoe trip into Ontario’s Algonquin park, many years ago. I clearly recall the colours of the clouds on that warm, midsummer day, splashes of pinks amid the pure whites. Fond memories of blissful days on the water in my canoe.

“Rose Dreams”

"Rose Dreams"

“We live and breathe words. …. It was books that made me feel that perhaps I was not completely alone. They could be honest with me, and I with them. Reading your words, what you wrote, how you were lonely sometimes and afraid, but always brave; the way you saw the world, its colors and textures and sounds, I felt–I felt the way you thought, hoped, felt, dreamt. I felt I was dreaming and thinking and feeling with you. I dreamed what you dreamed, wanted what you wanted–and then I realized that truly I just wanted you.”
― Cassandra Clare

A very short post today, off to my nephew’s wedding in Hunsville. Recalling my own wedding 25 years ago and the dreams we had, many realized, some still in the works.

I chose this rose image, from my recent journey into macro photography, to represent the future, a bit soft and dreamy, and glowing brightly.

My wishes for wishes for David and Katelyn are many years of love, happiness, and dreams realized on their big day.
